I have traveled to a few places in a my short time, France, Germany, Austria (where I actually lived in Vienna for 8 months), Greece, Poland, the list goes on, and although I have never left Europe I wish to travel the world, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, America, Peru, the Caribbean… I want to see everything, taste their food, and fail at their languages.
Traveling crosses with my other two passions, architecture and history. History is self explanatory, it was always my favourite lesson as a child, now what I study at university and I hope to shape it into a career… be the next Dan Cruickshank, I would love his job, I’m better looking and have a nicer coat!
Buildings and architecture have been in my life for a long time, since the age of 3, I have been on trips around the United Kingdom to visit castles and stately homes and I have always been in awe of them. Their hidden passages, the intricately decorated furniture and art work on the walls, I loved their history, the stories of the buildings and the characters who lived in them. When I was younger I thought I might like to work as a theatrical designer, working on the costumes and sets of period adaptations, but now I realise my true passion is the actual building itself. The way the wood is carved on a stair case, the big book cases in the library, the vaulted ceilings of a chapel, the stone corridors, the way the rooms were planned out and even the bubbles in the old glass… everything is so delicate, designed to perfection, even the chimney pots can be pretty. I want to preserve them for years to come so others may enjoy them as I have.
However that doesn’t just mean my passion for architecture stops at stately homes, I also have an appreciation for modern buildings and clever design like Beetham Tower, Manchester… maybe one day when I am rich enough I may even afford an apartment there… or the Dancing House in Prague, or practically anything by Antoni Gaudí. Also structures, like the Eiffel Tower, the Trojan Column or the rolling bridge in London. Most of my pictures when I go on holiday are of interesting buildings, I wander around a strange city and see an unusual looking structure and just have to wander over to see what it is.
